Our school history
Elizabeth Selby Infant School was built in 1976 and was originally called Lawrence Teesdale Primary School. It was built to accomodate extra children from two other schools, however pupil numbers rose and so the school has only ever accomodated infant and nursery children. The name was also shortened to Lawdale Infant School.
Miss Elizabeth Selby was the Headteacher of Lawdale Infant School from 1975 to 1985. Sadly, in 1985, the school suffered a great loss because Miss Selby died following a two year battle with cancer. Miss Selby loved working here and worked very hard to make sure all the children were happy and learnt well. It was a very sad time for the school as everyone loved her and missed her very much. She left the school a gift of money to help the children enjoy the school.
The school was very thankful for all the hard work Miss Selby had done and wanted to remember her, so the school’s name was changed from Lawdale Infant School to Elizabeth Selby Infant School in 1990.
